I have a bet going with a business acquaintence of mine. He thinks that I not only would not ever consider certain sales professions / positions, but that I would not be able to sell in certain environments. I, on the other hand, would tackle any such opportunity because I believe in fundamentals in consultative selling, and that every career selling position has consistant trends and my process works for them all.
Since I've sold many different goods and services in my time, there are really just a few which I can say I've had no experience with - automobile sales - yes, cars.. I've always wanted a day on a car lot.. don't ask me why.
Another entire field I've avoided is insurance and other financial services sales - not that I haven't been approached! Years ago I went on a "group interview" for some major financial services firm. It was like a "cattle call" - the theory was that they just hired a group of folks, make them work for a very low base while training, then see who survived.
How about aviation? I'd like to see what the commercial team at Boeing does in a normal day's work.
What are some other unusual goods and services to sell? Reply as you see fit. Perhaps I'll set a day per month aside to do this for real!
